FMP Proposal

Circular Cities

Jacque Fresco is an American self-educated structural designer, architectural designer, concept artist, educator, and futurist. He is known for inventing a great number of medical devices, safety devices and homes. One of his greatest accomplishments is the creation of Venus project which finds solutions for harmful social and environmental problems. His future world eliminates monitory system which is replaced by a resource based system. This new system enhances the life of people and provides them with all of the necessities and a high standard of living. In contrast to the resource based system, the monitory system restricts people from accessing the resources of the Earth vital for the betterment of humankind and environment. Considering that, Jacque Fresco redesigns the cities in an efficient way, using a scientific method. The new cities incorporate the best of clean technology which do not cause harmful effects to the local ecology. They emphasize the restoration and protection of the environment. Some cities can be circular while other can be linear, underground or constructed as floating cities in the sea. My video will explore Jacque Fresco’s future circular cities. They will contain residencies, entertainment centres, theaters, parks, health care and educational facilities accessible to everyone.  All of the living amenities will be provided to people. The design of the city will be based on computer analysis of data about the environment and human needs. For example, population of a city determines the amount of residents that will be constructed. Each city will be automatically assembled on a site. The circular city consists of eight sectors. The outer sector is a recreational area which involves golf courses, hiking and biking trails and opportunities for water sports. The waterway surrounds the agricultural belt with its enclosed transparent buildings. Continuing into the city centre, the rest of the sectors incorporate sources of energy using wind, sonar and thermal devices which keep the environment clean. The residential sector consists of Residential District-streams, waterfalls, lakes throughout the area. A wide range of unique homes and apartments. They are relatively maintenance free that can resist to weather conditions. The apartment sector incorporates large complexes which contain drama groups, swimming pools, discussion groups and many other facilities. These large complexes assure more free space for parks and preserves. The disadvantage of the private homes is that you have to go to the other sectors in order to visit the facilities apartments offer. A wide variety of architecture and individual homes can be provided. They will incorporate simple designs without any decorations which only waste materials. These pre-fabricated flexible homes can be constructed on places such as forests, atop mountain or on remote islands. These new dwellings are self-contained energy efficient residences which are resistible to earthquakes and hurricanes. Eight domes house the science, art, research, music, entertainment, exhibition and conference centres which are equipped and available to everyone. The central dome includes a cybernated system, educational facilities, health centre and facilities for shopping, networking, childcare and communications. It is also the core for most transportation services. Monorails provide city-to-city transportation. High speed, magnetic levitation trains provide transportation within the city. They incorporate detachable passenger compartments which can be retracted in motion from the train. Thus, the time is saved and efficiency is enhanced. Some of the magnetic levitation trains are suspended beneath the bridges which are designed to carry tension, compression and torsion loads. Most of the transportation needs within the city will be served by the circular, radial, horizontal and vertical transveyors. High speed automobiles will be also available. They will incorporate voice recognition technology which will accept passengers’ requests. Proximity-sensor devices will be linked to the automobile velocity and braking system. It will prevent from cars’ collisions. Many of the transport units have detachable components and standardized containers making them easy to transfer. Future aircrafts will be used for emergency and medical services as well as for transportation vehicles. In particular, VTOL (Vertical Take-off and Landing) aircrafts will be used. They incorporate three synchronous turbines which allow an exceptional maneuverability. The airports contain terminals, maintenance facilities, service centres and hotels. The runways are radially arranged which allows safer landing and take-off in case of cross winds. Many of the terminals are located underground for efficient use of the land and people save.

I have chosen this theme because I like the idea of living in a harmony with the environment instead of causing the harmful irreversible effects to it. Jacque Fresco’s cities enhance the life of people and provide them with all of the necessities and a high standard of living.

My video assets can be sketches of future architecture, 3d and 2d animations, video and sounds. I am going to create a 3d circular city with all of its eight sectors. Then, I am going to do a 3d animation, using target cameras and a line tool which will help me to explore the city inside. The video can also include the footage of me, explaining circular cities. It, also, could be a text based footage, where the viewer can read about the future design or listen to my voice. I can edit my voice and add some effects to it. I am going to piece together all of the video assets in Final Cut Pro and add some effects in Motion software.

I can embed the video into the website which will contain three webpages: home page, video page and production page. The home page will introduce the viewer about its content. The video page will contain the actual video. The production page will reveal the production process of the video: pre-production, production and post-production phases. I can use vector graphics for my website. This way, I can design the website in Adobe Illustrator. I am going to use Adobe Dreamweaver to generate HTML code. I can create the navigation menu of my website in Adobe Flash software using an ActionScript.
I can print an A2 poster of my 3d circular city and Jacque Fresco’s quote:

“You can never design the best city, but you can design
the best city you know how to design at this time.”

I am going to use the poster for my show to attract the viewers and make them interested about my video project. Also, I can bring some sketches of future architecture along with the prints of 3d models created in Autodesk 3ds max.
